HOUSTON (August 5, 2001) - The Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston announced today that popular rock group Third Eye Blind will play at this year's CART race on Saturday, October 6 as part of the Pioneer Electronics Rock-N-Roar Concert Series. The band will perform on the infield stage at approximately 6:00 p.m., or immediately following Saturday's Grand Prix racing activities. Admission to the concert is included with the purchase of a Saturday ticket to the Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix expects one of rock music's hottest bands to attract young racing fans and to expose a younger demographic to the fast growing sport of auto racing. They also hope the popular concert will help them develop the Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix into one of Houston's premier outdoor festivals, a major goal for this year's organizers.

"We're absolutely ecstatic that Third Eye Blind will play at this year's Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix," said Jim Melvin, General Manager of the Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston. "With one of music's most popular bands serving as a headliner, we expect this year's festivities to attract not only young race fans but also as a new, younger audience who is just starting to appreciate and enjoy auto racing. We're also working to develop the Grand Prix into one of Houston's premier outdoor festivals and a popular concert certainly helps us achieve that goal."

Third Eye Blind has played at several other CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) races, including the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and the Marconi Grand Prix of Cleveland.

"As an entertainment company, Pioneer Electronics is thrilled to bring the Rock-N-Roar Concert Series to Houston," said Ed Sachs, executive vice president, Pioneer Electronics. "While top name drivers will put on a great show on the track, Third Eye Blind will provide the best off-track entertainment."

Tickets for the Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston can be purchased on-line (, by phone through the Grand Prix ticket office (713-739-7223), through Ticketmaster and through satellite tickets offices located throughout Houston.

The fourth annual Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix is expected to attract over 100,000 race fans to watch the world's fastest cars race through the streets of downtown Houston, October 5-7. The event will feature some of the world's best drivers, including Alex Zanardi, Michael Andretti, Cristiano da Matta, Christian Fittipaldi, Kenny Brack and many more.
